America's First 19th Amendment Voters
Less than 24 hours after the 19th Amendment was officially signed into the U.S. Constitution, women appeared at the polls in South St. Paul, Minnesota to vote in a special election regarding the expansion of their community's water system.
Over 80 women voted on Friday, August 27th, 1920 in South St. Paul, taking their place in history as the first women to vote under the provisions of the newly minted 19th Amendment. First in the Nation Suffrage Celebration was established in 2016 to honor these trailblazing voters. Meet the South St. Paul Voters.
